Houston Wedding Tip #5 : Location, Location, Location

You have the date set, you have an ideal of what kind of wedding you would like, now its time to decide the location of your reception. First thing you need to look at is the amount of guest your venue can hold. Many hotels have different party rooms that hold a variety of amount of people, so make sure you ask how many each room can hold. You also want to take a look at how far away your reception site is from your ceremony location. If its to far away you may have guest get lost or stuck in traffic on the way, even if they do have GPS or map-quest directions. Also your photographer needs a solid hour of time at least, to get your formal and your Bride and Groom portraits. If you reception site is already 30-40 minutes away, that will be cutting into your valuable picture taking time. When you are looking at the reception site, ensure there is plenty of parking for you guest. Often you will have alot more cars at your reception than you did at your ceremony so take your estimate and add those extra cars just to be safe. If the location is downtown, make sure that valet service is offered complimentary or you might risk your guest getting lost or going to the wrong venue (as downtown parking can often be confusing). Lastly location means everything, have a location that can easily be found and is in a safe respectable area!

Mini Vacation

Starting today at 6 pm we will be going on a min vacation until Saturday at noon. We have a good friend visiting us from Illinois and are going to show him the hightlights of the Houston area. Last month we had the joy of capturing Morgan and Kevin’s wedding day. I think their wedding was the most active wedding we have photographed this season! The highlights of their evening were the well choreographed first dance, the live band, and the elegant decorations at their reception site (Crystal Ballroom, Downtown Houston)! As you can see with their images, their traditions and style prevailed throughout their day. Thank you two, it was a joy capturing this special day!

Back in March we had a chance to travel to Dallas to capture the story of Milagros and Aaron. Their wedding day took place at the Gaylord Hotel in Grapevine, which is right outside of Dallas. Before deciding weather to have a outside or a inside wedding there are a few things to take in account. First what month did you decide to get married in? Is that month suitable for a outside wedding? Although the weather is very unpredictable (especially in Houston), if your getting married in January a outside wedding might not work the best.
Another thing to consider is cost when deciding which type of wedding to have. A lot of times a outdoor wedding can save you money in the long run, especially if you or a family member owns the land. But having a outside wedding doesn’t always save you money, and can be much more expensive. For example if you do have your own land you will still be responsible for renting or buying many items that venues are responsible for such as a large tent, chairs, tables, table cloths, place settings, lighting, and trash management to name a few.
There are so many things to consider when deciding on a outside or inside wedding. Take a look at some of these factors and you be one step closer to planning your dream wedding!

Wedding tip # 3: Band or DJ?

So if you have to make the ultimate choice of a band or a DJ, how do you make that choice? Choosing band or a DJ really depends on what kind of experience you want to provide to your guest. It also comes down to how much you plan on investing in entertainment for your wedding. A live band can create a different atmosphere to your guest, for example more might head to the dance floor to get a better view of the band, causing more guest to get involved in your celebrations. On the other hand often you are going to invest double or even triple on the band. While a DJ doesn’t provide live music, they can create a more personalize experience to your guest. A lot of times DJ’s having a wide variety of music so they can play a little bit for everyone, not to mention they can take on request better than a live band.
So what should I do? If it is in your budget we highly suggest you do both. It is often hard to find a band that will satisfy the musical taste of all your guest, so having that option of a DJ can help. Plus most of the time the band can or won’t be able to play the entire night and will often need breaks. So to keep the party moving you might want have something exciting still going on while the band is not playing. Invest in both a live band and a DJ, doing so will keep your celebration going, giving you and your guest something to talk about for years to come!

Wedding Tip #2 : colors

This weeks topic we will be discussing your choice of wedding colors. Its one of the hardest decisions to make, a decision that will show forever and ever in your wedding images. So here is the main question, what color(s) should you use? First you have to decide on what kind of theme you will be going with. For example if you choose a spring theme, a lot of times a light color will work the best. If you are going for a fall theme, orange is typically the color Brides and Grooms often choose. When choosing the color(s) to correlate with your theme, see what colors go well together and decide if you are going to be using more than one. If you do choose to go with multi colors, it is important to use complimentary colors (check out www.colormatters.com/colortheory.html ) That said, try not to choose similar colors that are associated with holidays, such as green and red, unless you are desiring a Christmas theme. Another suggestion is to consider what mood you are trying to reflect to your guest. When you look at colors they create different emotions, for example red excites, pink soothes, and green calms. If you want to add a certain feeling to your wedding guests mood, choose a color that will impact your largest group. This is a topic we be touching on very often, there are just so many color ideas that can be used! Your color choice(s) are going to be one of the hardest decisions you will have to make but with these tips we hope we have made it a little easier for you.
